Swoosh on Steroids

I obviously have a new pick up. Okay, who follows me on Instagram knows that I have more like 5 new pick ups and, in case you keep up with me on the Snap, you probably know that I should stop fronting and be honest about having about 10 new pick ups...Yeah...Anyways...
I've copped the Nike Big Swoosh about a week ago and have been wearing it about 4 times since then. Quite often, for someone who might rotate through 2 to 3 pairs of shoes within the same day (!).

So, let's break down this shoe's DNA: While the midsole obiously reminds of the Nike Air Max 2 CB 94, the no-lace upper with the zipper could be reminiscent of the Zoom Flight 98 "The Glove". The minimalistic yet bold silhouette, is topped with a HUGE backwards swoosh - just like our 90s Bulls fans know from Rodman's Nike Air Darwin. All of the mentioned styles used to have a very futuristic feel, back when they used to be releasde for the first time.
What I appreciate about the outcome is how different elements, which originally come from a past time, can result into a sneaker that looks new and fresh, without resigning the retro basketball kicks feel we all love so much.

Instead of going with a "basketball babe"- outfit which would've probably been the easiest option to pick, I went with a totally feminine style and kept some athletic elements. I've paired a grey Nike sports bra to a silky maxi skirt, usually worn in a more elegant way. On top I wore a thin bomber by Undefeated made of mesh and renews a basketball type of vibe in a subtle way. When it comes to colors I've kept it simple - white, black, grey. As simple as my outfit is, I've went bold with the styling. I've opted for sleek, straight hair, strong, neutral eyes and bold lipstick in the color Heroine by Mac Cosmetics.

This time I've worked with my almost-cousin, Marcello Bartolotta. You know how we Italians are, we are all cousins, aunts and uncles. Haha. No but really, Marcello's parents and my parents have been friends since they were teenagers, so we grew up together.
I like his style a lot. He works a lot with focus, blur and adds depth and different levels to his pictures.

Let me know if you like the pictures, the outfit and what you think about the Nike Big Swoosh.

The Pair that has Started it All

It's always cool and very interesting to see reviews and pictures of latest pick ups, but I’ve decided to go way back this time. Which pair of shoes could be called the first one of my collection? What has started it all? Obviously it's pretty hard to actually decide which exact moment it was in the past, but if I think back, this pair of shoes used to be one of the pairs I [still] own which I've loved to death. This pair of Nike Air Force I low has made me feel fresh while wearing it. You have to understand, I used to get bullied as a child and have always been some type of outcast at school and my headphones and my Discman used to be my most loyal companions. My elder cousins and my sister have once introduced me to Hip Hop and Basketball so actually owning a pair of shoes that could easily be worn by Jay-Z, Nelly or Dr. Dre was huge for me. I felt like a million bucks. Weird how my fashion role models used to be men - I used to be a tomboy growing up and female MC's used to dress very sexy when I was in my teens. I couldn't go to school in a Lil' Kim outfit at the age of 14 so I tended to like what Missy Elliott or DaBrat and the men would wear.
The shoe itself is now 11 years old and that's what it looks like. Since the outer sole broke a few months ago I've stopped wearing them. The Sole is yellow and the toe box full of creases - I love it! Although many people hate yellow midsoles I believe that they bring a certain charm to the shoe. Everyone sees how old they are and you can tell that the sneakers haave history. They literally went through a lot and are connected to hundreds of stories.
Back then I didn't have many dozens of shoes; I had exactly 2 pairs that I would wear all the time. So just think of what these shoes have been through: Kanye West playing the College Dropout, a DMX concert, myself on stage for the first time, first time dancing with a boy, my first time smoking weed [ yea yea, I used to be a regular teen bro, no reason to be shocked]. Basketball practice and Basketball games, but also my first injury that forced me to stay away from the court for months and the second that forced me to quit for years, You don't only walk in your shoes, but you live in them and that's what these kicks stand for. They are representative of a time of my life when things were harder, but also more exciting. When there was still enthusiasm and the possibility to discover new things day by day.

This is my pair of shoes. The one pair that has started it all. What is yours?

Introducing Shootsnapper: Camo and Dungarees

This time my talented photographer and I have switched the roles and I stepped behind the camera to take photos of her outfit. Obviously she is into fashion and sneakers just like me. Plus she's gorgeous and has got swag. Here's how Miriam aka Shootsnapper has explained her choice of weapons:

As a photographer you always have to be free to move quickly which is why I hardly wear heels. Sometimes you have to climb on things or stay in odd positions, so wearing sneakers is more than a fashion choice.
I love kicks that aren't on everyone's feet because I think autheticity and individuality are important. Since I'm into simple, comfortable outfits, I don't mind adding a little extra to it with a pair of catchy sneakers. These Puma Trinomic with a camo upper were a steal that I could grab at TJ Maxx. The camo pattern definitely gives them quite a bold look, which I enjoy. I love khaki hues so these are right up my alley. Besides the shoes, the clothes have to be just as comfortable and allow uncommon movements when I'm photographing. The dungarees are perfect. I can stash my phone or small pieces of equipment such as a lens cap in the front pocket - super handy.
Hoop earrings are a must for me and have been my signature jewelery for over 15 years.

Sheer Black Creepers

I love, Love, LOVE what my babe Shootsnapper did here! The pictures came out so sick!
The outfit was definitely inspired by Ana's post she did with her pair of Puma Creepers for Onygo. I've been a fan of her style for a long time and when I saw her pairing that edgy jumpsuit to the green pair I thought that was the type of swagger that fits the shoe the most. This time I haven't opted for my usual athletic streetwear kind of swag, but a fierce, edgy and clean look instead.
So I went shopping and looked for some wide pants that have a little bit of a Yohji Yamamoto-esque vibe. I came across these sheer ones by Topshop. The very oversized shirt is by Weekday and see through as well. Although you can't get a full on look of my silhouette, the set is somewhat low key revealing which adds some sass to it. The shoes are the triple black Creepers from the latest Puma x Fenty launch. I'm happy that I could get a pair. They are cool but feminine and I think a very good option for a sneaker girl who likes to doll up a little every now and then.
The make up is kept rather simple. I've contured my face to put focus on my lineaments and added some winged liner and my favorite red lipsick. Russian Red by MAC is the perfect red for paler gals like me.
What do you think? How have you styled the Puma Fenty Creepers, ladies?

adidas Clima Cool 1 & Vintage Pelle

Here we go with a new pair of kicks and a new set of pictures. My sneaker choice is as summery as it could get. The adidas Clima Cool 1 Retro is known for its ventilation providing design but also for its classic 2000's silhouette. I've opted for the "Frost Green" colorway which is just like it sounds...frosty, green-ish, teal-ish. I have not copped a dark shoe nor a mid/ high top which I'm very proud of. Gotta try out new things every now and then.
The outfit is feminine with a few tomboy elements. I've combined an old oversized Pelle Pelle jacket with a tight grey dress by H&M. To round it all up I've added a pair of white socks -I love dope socks.
Makeup wise I wore a dark brown liner under NYX "Sable" which ended up looking like a sick 90's lip. I kept the eyes neutral and chilled on contouring.
Let me know what you think and how you like the shoe.

All Black Errthang

Although I usually don't like Air Jordan I's because they are super uncomfortable to me, I've been willing to try these on and was an instant fan. The canvas upper, the colorway (I LOVE BLACK) and the thicker white sole that is the same used on the Nike Vandals made it for me. Big shoutout to TJ from The Good Will Out for always searching through their store-room and dig out something no one expects them to still have in stock.
Since I love to wear clean looks I went with an all black outfit. My advice for monochrome looks is to play with fabrics and finishes - I've combined a cotton hoodie to skinny pants with a satin finish, a snap back with a leather brim and my new Air Jordan 1 KO in the "Shadow" colorway. The different textures like cotton, leather and even the canvas of the shoes give the outfit depth and prevent it from looking flat. I love the grey detailing and how it makes the Wings logo pop.

How do you like all black outfits and what color do you love for monochrome outfits? Show me your outfits by tagging #pieraskicks on Instagram and inspire me to try out something new :)
